Every Tide + Tiki piece is made by hand, one at a time. No factory stamps, so no two pieces are exactly alike.

We want buying Shawn's work to be easy and exciting, so here's what you should know before making one yours.

ONE-OF-A-KIND ARTWORK

Unless specifically stated otherwise, the piece shown in a product listing is the actual piece being offered for sale.

Please take a good look at all available photos, dimensions, weight and product details before purchasing. Many Tide + Tiki pieces are substantial, and photographs don't always communicate scale as well as a tape measure does.

Natural wood is part of the art. Grain, knots, cracks, checks, texture, color variation and other natural characteristics may be visible throughout a piece. These aren't necessarily defects — they're part of working with real wood and part of what makes each piece unique.

PHOTOS + COLOR

We do our best to photograph Shawn's work accurately and show each piece from multiple angles whenever possible.

That said, wood can look different depending on lighting, surroundings and viewing angle. Colors may also appear differently depending on your phone, computer, monitor, brightness and display settings.

Please review all available photos and product specifications before purchasing. Slight differences between how a piece appears on your screen and how it appears in person are not considered defects.

LOCAL PICKUP

Local pickup in South Florida is our preferred way to get your new piece home.

Once you've purchased a piece, it is immediately removed from the market and held specifically for you. We'll contact you to coordinate pickup.

Please plan to pick up your purchase within 14 days, unless we've agreed to something different with you in advance.

If you need more time, talk to us. We're reasonable humans. We simply need to know what's going on.

Because a purchased piece is taken off the market and unavailable to other buyers, an extended delay in pickup does not create a right to cancel the purchase or receive a refund.

LOCAL DELIVERY

Depending on your location and the size of the piece, local delivery may be available for an additional charge.

Delivery availability and pricing are determined individually. Please contact us before purchasing if you need delivery rather than pickup.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, someone must be available to receive the piece at the arranged delivery time.

OUTSIDE SOUTH FLORIDA?

See something you love? Don't let the mileage scare you.

We do not currently offer standard shipping through our website. Many Tide + Tiki pieces are large, heavy and completely one of a kind.

If you're outside South Florida, contact us before purchasing.

We'll explore appropriate transportation or shipping options based on:

• your location;

• the size and weight of the piece;

• packing or crating requirements;

• the appropriate carrier or transportation method; and

• insurance.

Any approved shipment must be fully insured for the purchase value of the artwork. Packing, crating, transportation, shipping and insurance costs are additional and are the buyer's responsibility unless we agree otherwise in writing.

We reserve the right to decline shipping if we don't believe a piece can be transported safely or reasonably to its destination.

SHIPPING DAMAGE OR LOSS

For the rare piece that we agree to ship, we'll take reasonable care in preparing it for transportation and require appropriate insurance.

If a shipped piece arrives damaged, please do not discard the packaging. Contact us immediately and provide clear photographs of:

• the artwork;

• the damage;

• the exterior packaging;

• the interior packing materials; and

• any visible damage to the package or crate.

Please also keep all packaging and cooperate with any carrier or insurance claim process.

If a shipment is lost or damaged, any refund, repair, claim or other resolution will be handled based on the circumstances, applicable carrier/insurance coverage and applicable law.

FINAL SALE

Because Tide + Tiki pieces are original, one-of-a-kind artwork, all purchases are considered final sale except where otherwise required by law.

Please review the photographs, measurements, weight, description and other product information carefully before purchasing.

We understand that life happens. If you purchase a piece and immediately realize there's a problem, contact us as soon as possible. We may choose to make an exception on a case-by-case basis at our sole discretion, provided the piece has not been delivered, shipped, altered or damaged.

An exception made for one purchase does not change our final-sale policy or require us to make the same exception in the future.

Once a piece has been held off the market for an extended period, delivered, shipped or otherwise transferred to the buyer, a change of mind does not qualify for a refund.

Nothing in this policy limits any rights or remedies that cannot legally be waived.

CUSTOM WORK + DEPOSITS

Custom work is different from purchasing an existing piece.

Before Shawn begins a commissioned piece, we'll agree with you on the general concept, approximate dimensions, pricing, payment schedule and other important project details.

Any required deposit and whether it is refundable will be disclosed before you approve and pay for the commission.

Once materials have been purchased or work has begun, deposits and payments may become non-refundable as stated in your custom-project agreement.

HANDMADE MEANS HANDMADE

This one's important.

When Shawn creates a piece inspired by something he's made before, the new piece will not be an exact reproduction.

Wood is different. Grain is different. Shapes are different. And Shawn draws and carves each piece by hand.

Reference photographs, previous Tide + Tiki pieces and design discussions establish the general creative direction, not a guarantee of an exact duplicate.

Natural variations and reasonable artistic differences are not defects.

Shawn may be able to create a new piece inspired by one he's made before. It won't be an exact copy, and we wouldn't want it to be.

Wood species, available material, grain, color, dimensions, proportions, carving details and finish may vary. We'll discuss the project with you before work begins.

CONCEPT + LIFESTYLE IMAGES

Some images on the Tide + Tiki website may show Shawn’s artwork in a conceptual or digitally created setting to help visitors visualize how a piece — or a similar custom creation — could look in a home, restaurant, bar, hotel, marina or other space.

These images are for visualization and inspiration only.

A concept image does not represent that Tide + Tiki created, installed or sold every element shown in the surrounding environment, nor does it promise that a future custom piece will be identical to artwork shown in a conceptual setting.

When a product listing offers a specific existing piece for sale, please rely on the actual product photographs, description, dimensions and specifications provided in that listing when making your purchase decision.

For commissioned work, concept images, inspiration photos, sketches and previous pieces communicate creative direction. Because Shawn works by hand with natural materials, the completed artwork will have its own characteristics and will not be an exact digital reproduction of a concept image.

That's not a flaw. That's handmade.

A note on AI

Some conceptual/lifestyle images on this website may be created or enhanced using digital tools, including generative artificial intelligence.

We use these images as a visualization tool — much like an interior designer uses a rendering to show how something could look in a finished space.

AI-generated or digitally created surroundings are not photographs of completed Tide + Tiki commercial installations unless we specifically identify them as such.

OUTDOOR DISPLAY + NATURAL MATERIALS

Finished Tide + Tiki pieces identified as suitable for outdoor display are prepared for outdoor use.

However, wood is still wood.

Sun, rain, humidity, salt air, temperature changes and other environmental conditions can affect natural wood and its finish over time. Changes such as weathering, fading, checking, movement or other effects of exposure and age are not necessarily defects in craftsmanship.

How and where a piece is displayed will affect how it ages. Covered or protected locations will generally expose artwork to less environmental stress than completely exposed locations.

INSTALLATION + MOUNTING

Unless a listing or custom agreement specifically says otherwise, Tide + Tiki does not represent that a piece includes professional installation, mounting, structural engineering or site preparation.

Customers are responsible for making sure any wall, structure, surface, hardware or location used to display a piece is appropriate for its size and weight.

For large, heavy, wall-mounted or unusual installations, we recommend using an appropriately qualified professional.

Tide + Tiki is not responsible for damage or injury resulting from improper installation, mounting, handling, modification or use after the piece leaves our possession, to the extent permitted by law.

MEASUREMENTS + WEIGHT

Measurements and weights are provided as accurately as reasonably possible, but minor variations may occur because these are handmade objects with irregular natural shapes.

Please measure your intended space before purchasing.

If clearance, mounting, doorway width or another dimension is critical, contact us before buying and we'll happily confirm the measurement with you.

COPYRIGHT + INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Every original Tide + Tiki design begins with Shawn's imagination and is created by hand. We take that creativity seriously.

Unless otherwise stated, original artwork, carvings, sculptural designs, drawings, photographs, graphics, written content and other original creative works displayed by Tide + Tiki are protected by applicable copyright and intellectual-property laws.

Purchasing a Tide + Tiki piece means you're purchasing the physical artwork. It does not transfer the copyright, reproduction rights, merchandising rights or other intellectual-property rights associated with Shawn's original design.

Without prior written permission, Tide + Tiki artwork and original designs may not be copied, reproduced, replicated, adapted or commercially exploited, including for use on or in connection with merchandise such as apparel, prints, stickers, signs, home décor, textiles, accessories or any other products. We’re looking at you big retail corps and any other grifter who likes to profit off of the backs of creative small business owners. Shame. Shame!

Tide + Tiki artwork and imagery may not be provided to a manufacturer, retailer, designer, print-on-demand service, artificial-intelligence system or other third party for the purpose of reproducing, adapting, manufacturing or commercially exploiting Shawn's original work without our written permission.

Unauthorized commercial reproduction or use of protected Tide + Tiki artwork may constitute copyright or other intellectual-property infringement. Tide + Tiki reserves all rights and may pursue available legal remedies when our intellectual property is used without authorization.

Bought one of Shawn's pieces and want to post it online, showing it in your home, restaurant or backyard? Please do. We love seeing where these pieces end up. Tagging Tide + Tiki is always appreciated.

Turning Shawn's artwork into something you're manufacturing or selling?

Absolutely not. Not so gnarly. Don't do that.

WEBSITE INFORMATION

We work hard to keep product descriptions, availability, dimensions, pricing and other information accurate.

Occasionally, though, humans human.

If we discover a material error in a listing or an item becomes unavailable before an order can be fulfilled, we'll contact the buyer and handle the order appropriately, including issuing any refund required by applicable law.

We reserve the right to correct typographical errors, inaccuracies or omissions and to update website information when necessary.

We make unusual things from big pieces of wood, and sometimes unusual things require a little conversation.

If you're unsure about the size, pickup, delivery, a custom idea, displaying a piece outdoors, or whether we can somehow get a tiki from South Florida to the other side of the country, ask us before purchasing.
